There are plenty of popular lotteries around the world, however it is rare to come across a lottery that is quite as popular as the iconic transnational EuroMillions lottery that was launched back in 2004.
The famous competition has people from across Europe scrambling to guess the lottery numbers, and is available in the UK, France, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Portugal, Switzerland and Ireland.
In order to win the EuroMillions lottery you have to have seven correct lottery numbers, something that is pretty damn difficult to achieve, believe us… It does happen, however, so keep reading to find out some of the biggest ever EuroMillions lottery wins. You can also see how they compare to other huge lottery wins here [biggest ever lottery wins].
The 1st €190 million EuroMillions jackpot
Unlike other lotteries like Daily Millions in the US, for example, the EuroMillions jackpot is capped at €190 million, and the first time this amount was reached happened back in 2012 after nine consecutive rollovers. Adrian and Gillian Bayford were the lucky duo in possession of the winning lottery numbers, with lottery jackpot that would turn their lives around.
Unfortunately its not all smiles, even when you win a multi-million EuroMillions jackpot… 15 months after their big win the Bayfords sadly divorced, which just goes to show that money doesn’t always solve everything, in fact sometimes it can do the opposite!
The 2nd €190 million EuroMillions jackpot
Due to the fact that the EuroMillions jackpot prize is capped at €190 million, four of the largest wins from this lottery are the same total. The next time somebody won the full amount was in 2014, where an anonymous Portuguese winner scooped a sum of money we all surely dream of.
The winning ticket was bought at a small shop in the Alegro Shopping Centre, and unsurprisingly they reported a huge increase in EuroMillion lottery ticket sales after the big win.
The 3rd €190 million EuroMillions jackpot
Onto the third humungous €190 million EuroMillions jackpot, and this time the location is in Spain. This easily beat the previous Spanish lottery win record of €137 million, with a €190 million EuroMillions prize coming after five successive rollovers.
The winning lottery ticket was bought in Las Palmas, which is a popular tourist destination for us Brits. Who knows? The lottery winner could even have been English.
The 4th €190 million EuroMillions jackpot
The last and most recent €190 EuroMillions jackpot was won in 2019 by an anonymous UK citizen after one of the craziest periods in the history of the EuroMillions lottery. The jackpot hit the €190 million cap after an already mental 18 rollovers, but it still took another four lottery draws before a winner was found.
After this EuroMillions ran a “Must Be Won” draw, meaning that somebody out there simply had to run out being a lottery winner – no ifs no buts, there had to be a winner! Unfortunately we’ll never know who, because the €190 EuroMillions jackpot prize was won by an anonymous UK person.
