Winzum Spotlight: SINE
Online competitions are our forte of course, but over at Winzum we’re also massively invested in trying to help out anyone we can, especially independent businesses and creatives that certainly haven’t had the best year over the past 12 months.
And that’s what the “Winzum Spotlight” series is all about, where we highlight some of the people that really deserve it, this time – the drum & bass label and events team SINE.
SINE have been around since 2015, providing a quality dose of drum & bass in the form of raves, and more recently their own released music through the label SINE Audio. The genre is in a very healthy place at the moment, and it’s all down to people like this! Hold tight for a spotlight on SINE…
Who are SINE?
SINE were established in London 5 years ago, quickly building a reputation for curating heartfelt and cutting-edge drum & bass line-ups across the city, throwing parties in prestigious venues such as Fabric, Lightbox and E1. Having had the likes of LTJ Bukem, Bladerunner and Voltage pass through the doors, it’s safe to say SINE events are a pretty good bet for a drum & bass rinse out.
The outfit also has a dedication to quality over quantity, one of the mean reasons they have become so well revered. With a label project in the pipeline for a while, the events of 2020 forced a switch in focus, and SINE Audio was born. An imprint committed to unearthing the best new talent in the drum & bass and liquid drum & bass worlds.
Providing the crème-de-la-crème of forward thinking drum & bass
As they say themselves, the SINE Audio blueprint is informed by “forward thinking, tech-heavy influenced drum and bass sound, and a smooth liquid sound to contrast it”. With releases from the likes of Dunk, Kin:etic, Villem and Waeys already under their belt, the label have already shown their expertise in releasing cutting edge drum and bass.
One half of the popular duo Jam Thieves, Dunk’s “Play The Game” EP, released through SINE Audio, gives you an idea of their love of deeper and slightly more techy influenced drum and bass. The track “SetBack” in particular is a perfect example, blending a sparse atmosphere with bruising bass sirens and an interesting jungle-inspired approach to drums.
A clear hope for the future
With other stand-out releases from the likes of HØST, it’s clear that the road ahead looks very exciting indeed for SINE Audio, and hopefully once we are out of this current mess the label and events side of SINE can combine. Drum and bass events will come back, but we all need to help to make sure that they are the best they can be!
