Dangers of being a comper
The 21st century has made a crazy number of things possible that we would have never thought about before, and one of those things is the ability to enter an almost infinite number of online competitions whenever you want. Oh yes, the online competition world is bursting at the seams these days, with so many great prizes there to be won (trust us, we’d know!).
For example, does the thought of winning a super-exclusive USB of unreleased tracks from iconic drum & bass trio The Sauce make your heart rate quicken? If so we’ll politely point you in the direction of this… [Winzum The Sauce Giveaway].
But anyway, the online competition universe is undeniably pretty healthy at the moment, and as a result people called “compers” have been able to essentially make a living from them. It’s not all fun and games though; as there are some dangers of being a comper too, read on to make sure you are in the know.
You can’t put “comper” on the CV…
Sure, there are a lot of advantages to being a comper, as you can see here [the advantages of being a comper], however at the same time you have to remember that you cannot exactly put “comper” on your CV. What we’re trying to say here is that no matter how successful you are at online competitions, being a comper isn’t going to do wonders for your overall career prospects.
This is a definite danger to being a comper these days, because you cannot expect to be able to live like this forever. After all, there is a limit on how much you can earn from simply entering online competitions.
Being a comper is never a sure-fire route to online competition success
Furthermore, it is very important that you don’t see being a comper as a quick and easy route to online competition success, in reality it is anything but. Just because you put in hours a day entering online competitions, there is absolutely no guarantee that this will make you win anything.
In fact, this is a trap that we’re determined to put out to people here at Winzum, as we’re always going to have your back. You cannot just expect to win competitions simply through attempting to be a comper, make sure you remember that!
In order to truly be a comper you are going to need a lot of time
And here’s another thing about being a comper: you are going to need a whole lot of time in order to make it work. Seriously; we’re not joking here, people who claim to be professional compers will quite often spend several hours a day trawling through online competition sites – you will need to be prepared to do the same. It takes a lot of time to be a comper, and if you try too hard to fulfil this dream you may also find that you are struggling to find time to do more important things like take care of the kids.
It’s never a good idea to put all of your eggs in one basket
You know that old saying: “don’t put all your eggs in one basket”? It wasn’t just thought up out of nowhere, and this is definitely something to consider when it comes to trying to be a comper.
Winning online competition prizes is never going to be a guarantee, so you could be seriously tempting fate by trying too hard to just be a comper and nothing else.
