How to boost your lockdown fitness

Benefits

Over at Winzum we’re always looking to help our wonderful online competition community, and now more than ever before it seems like we’re all in need of a little helping hand. Let’s be honest here: it has been a seriously trying year, and we’re pretty sure it is also going to be one that everybody is going to be pretty keen to forget.

But we’re here now, and although the situation is pretty rubbish, there are always ways in which we can make a positive out of the whole thing. You may have already read our article on keeping busy during lockdown [how to keep busy during lockdown], in which exercising regularly was one of our key tips.

Exercise is without a doubt one of the best ways to keep yourself occupied, not to mention healthy on a physical and mental level. There are various ways to improve your lockdown fitness, and it is actually incredibly important that you aren’t just sitting around doing nothing. With all this in mind, read on for a few ways that you can boost your lockdown fitness.

Go for regular runs or cycles

Oh yes, going on regular runs and cycles is definitely the easiest way to keep your lockdown fitness up-to-scratch, especially considering you don’t need to visit a gym to take part in them. Furthermore, for running especially there is minimum equipment required as well, so you won’t have to break the bank in order to boost your lockdown fitness.

There’s more too, because going for regular runs or cycles will also give you valuable time outside in the fresh air, something that will get increasingly hard to come by as the British winter rolls through.

Use the extra time to prepare more healthy meals

Despite all of the obvious negatives associated with lockdown, a silver lining for many of us is the fact that we are left with more free time, for better or for worse. One of the most productive ways to use your free time is to prepare some healthier meals, and this will also help boost your lockdown fitness.

Modern life can be so hectic sometimes that we just don’t get the time to truly put the time and passion into making proper home cooked and healthy meals, so why not start whilst you can?

Socialise outside through walks and hikes

Socialising with your friends and family indoors is getting more and more difficult at the moment, however you’re always able to socialise outside whilst walking or hiking.

Yes it’s cold, but it’s nothing a few layers won’t fix! Not only are walks and hikes good for your overall lockdown fitness, but they also get you outside in the fresh air, and you never know what you might discover right on your doorstep…

Prepare a strict lockdown exercise routine

One of the main ways in which lockdown can negatively affect people mentally is because of a lack of routine, but preparing a strict lockdown exercise schedule can really help mitigate this.

Set a target for yourself like going for a 30 minute run each morning before work, for example, and you will quickly find the benefits of keeping to a routine during these tumultuous times.
